Position Summary: A Research Assistant position is available immediately to study structural and functional aspects of a calcium release channel in the context of skeletal and cardiac muscles. Main techniques used in the laboratory are biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, and 3D structural determination of proteins by cryo-electron microscopy. Required Qualifications: The candidate must have at a BS, MSc, or PhD degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field, and have prior hands-on experience in a laboratory environment Ability to maintain detailed documentation through electronic and hand-written means Ability to work independently Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a hourly employee at VCU Preferred Qualifications: Experience in electron microscopy, structural biology, and/or computing Experience in Western Blot, radioligand assays, cell culture, calcium imaging, protein purification, or related techniques Ability to design and perform experiments, and to analyze and interpret the resulting data Interested candidates should send the complete CV and contact information of three references to Montserrat.samso@vcuhealth.org.
