The IT Lead is responsible for supervising the IT department resources and the department's workload, under the direction of the Director of IT, ensuring that technology strategies align with the organization's goals. This role involves overseeing and supporting the setup, operation, and maintenance of our network and system infrastructure, including both on-premises and cloud environments. The IT Lead will guide the team and take a hands-on approach in managing cloud infrastructure, configuring systems, deploying patches, implementing security measures, and troubleshooting issues. By collaborating with the IT Director, Security Team, Desktop Engineers, and Development Teams, the IT Lead will support the construction of robust cloud infrastructure that aligns with NJII's objectives while ensuring the secure and efficient operation of computing platforms, servers, and networks.

Essential Functions - Develop and implement IT strategies that align with organizational objectives and enhance operational efficiency. Lead and mentor the IT team, providing guidance and support in their professional development. Oversee the design, implementation, and management of IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, and networks. Provide technical guidance on network/system infrastructure issues. Manage procurement, testing, installation, and support of network equipment and systems (LAN, DMZ, WAN, routers, switches, Access Points, WLAN Controllers). Ensure expertise in Azure cloud infrastructure and services (e.g., Azure Web Apps, Virtual WAN, Firewalls, VNets) and the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (e.g., Intune, Azure AD). Conduct audits, support penetration tests, and manage a Microsoft domain environment. Lead cloud recommendations and security readiness; implement, manage, and secure cloud systems with the NJII technical team. Monitor and evaluate the performance of IT systems and processes, making recommendations for improvements as necessary. Additional Functions -
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement within the IT department. Develop new alerts/monitoring techniques and recommend solutions for help desk and systems management improvement. Coordinate the design and execution of backup and disaster recovery plans. Prepare and present reports on IT performance, project status, and budget expenditures to senior management. Participate in strategic planning initiatives to align IT goals with organizational growth and development. All other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications - Education/Degree Required
§ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for the Education Requirements above.
Years of Experience Required
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in IT management, with at least 4 years focused on managing Firewalls, Windows, Linux, server environments, and Microsoft Cloud (Azure, Defender, Sentinel, Endpoint Manager).
Knowledge/Skills Required
Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including networking, servers, and cloud computing. Proficient in project management methodologies and tools. Excellent leadership and team management skills. Deep understanding and configuration skills for network systems and protocols (e.g., SMTP, SNMP, DNS, NTP, FTP, TCP/IP, NFS). Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and experience with server and desktop systems patching. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and data protection regulations, including compliance needs (e.g., HIPAA, CIS, NIST). Certifications such as CCNA, Microsoft Azure, and Sophos are preferred.
Salary Information-
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency law, the annual salary range for this position is $80,000- $85,000 (USD). NJII considers factors like, but not limited to, job scope, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions when making offers. This pay range covers base pay only and excludes bonuses or other incentives.
