Job Summary
This role manages the people, process and technology components of the County's data center environments (physical & cloud based). Primary responsibilities include management of VMware, windows server, routing infrastructure, continuity and SAN administration. Advanced knowledge of VM Ware operations, backup/recovery, security, SAN systems, and data center operations. This position will support a dynamic 24 x 7 environment with high availability and scalable secure performance requirements based on end user requirements. Duties and Responsibilities Administer and support a virtualized Windows server environment using VMware technologies (vCenter, vSphere, ESXi). Manage and maintain County SAN systems and related storage environments. Oversee enterprise backup and recovery operations to ensure data integrity, continuity, and compliance. Monitor, maintain, and tune system performance including patching, updates, and proactive capacity planning. Ensure compliance with IT security standards, policies, and procedures across physical and virtual environments. Maintain accurate and up-to-date system-level documentation. Evaluate new infrastructure technologies and implement best practices for high availability and scalability. Support SQL Server environments and ensure performance optimization and stability. Assists with preparation of annual IT budget as related to planned upgrades, software maintenance and required hardware. Serves as liaison to internal customers reporting on active projects, identifying issues and assessing impact and proactively recommending solutions. Analyzes workflows seeking technology integration for productivity/performance. Submits and manage new and open external support tickets with multiple vendors when problems are identified. Develops data management operational procedures and technical guidance standards for application usage. Evaluates new features, functionality, technologies and implements application best practices. Strong ROI influence. Manages technical resources to provide support operation as needed on server, PC, mobile devices, surveillance, or radio communications issues. Coordinate technical resources to achieve timing/fiscal objectives. Manages tactical project activities within County operations and ensuring ongoing alignment with County strategic goals. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science. 5 years of Windows server administration in an equivalent environment. 2 years of HA Server virtualization administration experience in an equivalent environment. SAN Storage and backup/business continuity experience in an equivalent environment. Valid Driver's License. Subject to Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background standards. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Alabama Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS VMware or Proxmox certification Experience with Veeam Administration experience with multi-platform SAN environments; Nimble, StoreOnce, etc.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
WORKING CONDITIONS Most work is performed in an office environment but frequent activities in the field are required for communication tower sites or other building projects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is light to medium in nature and involves significant amounts of walking and standing, and also requires carrying, lifting, pushing and pulling. Conditions of Job Offer and Employment

As a current Shelby County Classified Service employee, if an offer of this position would result in a promotion, you understand that you must serve a 30-day promotional probationary period. During this 30-day period you may be demoted for unsatisfactory service and returned to the position held prior to the promotion. If promoted while serving a new hire probationary period you shall serve out the remainder of your six month probationary period, but in no event shall you serve less than a 30-day probationary period for the promotion. The probationary period lasting the longest will supersede.
