INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST . Read on this may be the role for you! FUTURE SALARY INCREASE June 2026 4.49% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment) June 2027 4.49% increase to base pay (3% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment) ABOUT THE POSITION: Information Technology Specialists perform a variety of technical support duties related to computer systems and equipment. They may serve as first responders for computer, network, and hardware/software issues. They act as technical representatives and liaisons between departments and IT service providers to ensure effective support for network services and IT business processes. Responsibilities include diagnosing errors, installing and updating hardware/software, and resolving support requests, including specialties like Help Desk, Web, and ERP. The current opening is with the Sheriffs Office. INTERVIEWS AND HIRING PROCESS: Selected candidates will receive job offers shortly after interviews and should be prepared to complete background paperwork immediately. The recruitment timeline is as follows: Job offer and background process: shortly after interviews. Pre-employment medical screening: approximately 3 days after successful background check. Start date: upon completion of medical screening or mutually agreed date. If not selected, you may be considered for future vacancies. The eligible list may be used for various County departments, with placements depending on departmental needs. IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate should have knowledge of relevant operating systems and technologies, with a focus on improving user experience and customer service. Skills include problem-solving, critical thinking, process improvement, troubleshooting, and system resolution. Good organization, time management, and prioritization skills are essential for handling multiple projects. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves exposure to computer screens in an office environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree in computer science, IT, or a related field, or foreign equivalency, providing basic IT knowledge;
AND Two years of IT work experience involving hardware/software support, troubleshooting, data validation, or application implementation; OR, Four years of IT experience with the County of San Diego. Additional relevant experience or coursework may substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basis. Required documents include diploma, transcripts, foreign equivalency report, certifications, and a current resume, uploaded with your application.
