The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking a
Network Services Manager
to guide the strategy, operations, and continuous improvement of its enterprise network infrastructure. This position plays a vital role in ensuring fast, secure, and reliable connectivity that supports research, education, and administrative excellence across campus.
The Network Services Manager provides technical and managerial leadership for the university's network infrastructure. This position oversees team leads across various networking areas and directs the delivery of core services that support students, faculty, staff, and researchers. The successful candidate will align network services with university strategic priorities, lead cross-functional initiatives, and ensure the university remains prepared for the evolving demands of a modern digital campus.
Responsibilities
Direct and support Network Services staff in their daily operations Direct team meetings and attend regular meetings with OIT management Recruit, onboard, and evaluate staff; lead career development and training Partner with other IT units and university stakeholders to ensure alignment with academic and administrative goals Lead planning and execution of infrastructure projects and upgrades Support networking needs for building renovations and construction Manage relationships with vendors and service providers Oversee support and maintenance agreements Negotiate for best value solutions, services, and projects Oversee asset inventory and ensure accurate capital tracking Develop strategic plans and budget for the Network Services team Work with Managers to ensure cost models for each group conform to university policy and procedures Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business/Organizational Management, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical field 5 years of relevant experience (including at least 3 years of management experience) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to supervise highly technical staff Broad technical knowledge including networking, IT security, IT operations, Telecommunications, etc. in a large-scale environment Ability to manage multiple complex, high impact projects Ability to manage multiple, shifting priorities Ability to build relationships within and across organizational boundaries Conflict management skills Excellent written and verbal skills Strong negotiation skills Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.
Preferred Qualifications:
7 years of relevant experience (including at least 3 years of management experience) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of working in a Higher Education environment Broad knowledge that covers many aspects of information technology in addition to the core networking-related disciplines such as System Administration, Cloud Services, Audio Visual, etc. Work Location:
This is an on-campus position with some flexibility for WFH.

MR16 Anticipated hiring range:
