Overview
Conduct field inspections in accordance with department guidelines. Areas of inspection include: substandard exterior housing inspections for critical repairs, dilapidated structures/demolition, unsanitary premises, junked vehicles, litter, trash, debris, and old appliances/furniture, overgrowth of shrubbery and trees, and illegal dump sites. Consults with property owners to show where violations are present and explain necessary modifications for compliance. Consults with citizens regarding the results of their inspections. Drive through assigned territory to investigate possible violations and/or emergency conditions. Respond to complaints and prioritize issues. Log in and track complaints on computer. Research and make determination of appropriate code violations to address the complaint. Prepare and issue appropriate compliance letters and written notices. Review telephone and electronic messages and conduct follow-up field interviews and inspections to explain violations and obtain compliance. Prepare daily reports and maintain records to establish sufficient background information to proceed with legal action, if necessary. Testify in court on those cases where voluntary compliance is not obtained. Communicate regularly and work closely with related City departments to determine appropriate responsibility for complaints. Promote and assist neighborhood groups to form cooperative self-help clean-up projects and programs through local and state organizations. Maintain records and files in accordance with City policy and State law. Drive a City vehicle to and from inspection locations. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy. Must maintain sufficient personal credibility in order to support the validity of their statements in all official matters. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Possess Texas Code Enforcement Officer Certification or must obtain within one (1) year of employment. Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record. PREFFERED: Bilingual in English and Spanish. 1-2 years of related experience or combination of experience/training and college education.

Less than 6 years of service -
two weeks of vacation per year. From 6 to less than 11 years of service -
three weeks of vacation per year. From 11 to less than 21 years of service -
four weeks of vacation per year. From 21 to less than 26 years of service -
five weeks of vacation per year. From 26 years of service and up -
six weeks of vacation per year.
