The Mechanical Systems Group, part of the Department of Space Instruments and Payloads, is responsible for developing spaceflight instrumentation, structures, and avionics. We are seeking a Lead or Principal Engineer to support the full lifecycle of hardware development, lead a team of engineers, and interface with customers to support design reviews and technology development. Responsibilities
Lead design efforts using CAD for spaceflight technologies including sensors, mechanisms, and spacecraft. Perform structural and thermal analyses of flight hardware using finite element software and classical techniques. Supervise fabrication efforts for spaceflight hardware. Test hardware to ensure robustness against launch and space environmental conditions. Support research and development to improve technology and gain competitive advantage. Mentor junior engineers and develop best practices for spaceflight hardware development. Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. 8-18 years of design experience with CAD software. 8-18 years of analysis experience with FEA software. Working knowledge of metallic and/or composite manufacturing processes. Experience with spaceflight mechanisms and deployable systems is desirable. Valid driver's license. Additional Requirements
