Overview
The Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of protection and control systems essential for the safe and reliable functioning of the transmission and distribution system. This role includes evaluating system failures and supporting operations during unplanned maintenance, sharing accountability in developing the organization’s Life Cycle Plan, and supervising other engineers and staff. This is a hybrid role; the first three months are full-time in the office. Department Summary
The Protection and Control Engineering department handles project deliverables for measurement, automation, and protection relaying schemes, ensuring safety, reliability, economy, and efficiency, in compliance with standards like NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE. Essential Functions
Supervise, coach, and develop engineers; approve time and conduct performance reviews. Manage scope and cost development for multi-year projects and ongoing activities. Review proposed changes to existing facilities for compatibility with standards. Create new protection and control system designs per standards. Ensure timely and accurate completion of design, specifications, permits, and notifications. Guide development and documentation of relay settings and logic. Analyze system disturbances and protection operations during events. Maintain compliance with safety and engineering standards. Collaborate with other engineers and provide technical support during normal and emergency situations. Conduct root-cause analyses and implement corrective actions. Support planning, operations, and maintenance activities with technical expertise. Oversee technology and equipment selection, and develop standards and procedures. Manage work activities independently and support storm/emergency restoration efforts. Qualifications
Technical Skills:
Problem-solving, attention to detail, proficiency with office software. Education:
BS in Electrical Engineering or related; advanced degree preferred. Experience:
Minimum of 8 years in relevant technical or operational roles; supervisory experience preferred. Preferred Experience
Protection and coordination studies with ASPEN or similar software. Post-event analysis with relay and fault recorders. Protection schemes utilizing IEC61850 protocol. Experience with SCADA, RTUs, HMIs, telecommunication, relays, substations, automation, and related systems. Working Conditions
Availability for emergency restoration and travel within MA/CT/NH. Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary ranges from $137,310 to $157,150, plus incentives, with a comprehensive benefits package. Salary depends on experience. Additional Details
