Summary of DutiesResponsible for supervising the day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the long term care facility and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services/Clinical Services Administrator to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Essential Job FunctionsDirect the day-to-day functions of the nursing employees in accordance with the resident care plan, current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facilityImplement and maintain an effective orientation program that orients the new employee to Nursing policies and procedures and to his/her job position dutiesDetermine and inform staff of the work/resident assignment for the shiftAdmit, transfer, and discharge residents according to the doctors ordersInform employees of new admissionGreet new admissions and escort to roomsParticipate in the assessment and care planning process; communicating information observed during the shiftMeet with residents, and/or family members, as necessary. Report problem areas to the Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing ServicesEncourage residents and their families to participate in the development and review of care plansMake daily rounds and report findings to Director of Nursing Services/Clinical Services Administrator to determine if nursing services are in accordance with nursing standardsDocument all interventions and activities according to policy and regulationsCommunicate with physician, Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services, and other employees, as necessary, concerning the status of residents and activities on the shiftMake rounds with physicians as necessary. Schedule physician visits as necessaryPrepare and administer medication as ordered by the physicianReport all discrepancies concerning physician's orders for patient care to the Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing ServicesInform the Director of Nursing Services/Clinical Services Administrator of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on the shiftReport medication, supply and equipment needs to Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing ServicesPerform other duties and responsibilities including special projects as assignedEducation and ExperienceGraduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed by the State of Alabama as a Registered Nurse. Three (3) years experience in a long-term care facility or nursing home preferred. Must possess CPR certification within thirty (30) days of employment.Physical Requirements for Essential Job FunctionsMust be able to move about intermittently throughout the workdayMust be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the positionMust be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work dayMust be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully metMust be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistanceMust be able to walk/stand 75% of the dayMust be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
