Job Description: The Linux / Solaris Administrator serves as the technical administrator primarily responsible for managing and monitoring the associated hardware and software of the Linux and Solaris infrastructure in the Division of Information Technology.
Responsibilities: Linux: Support and maintain the institutions Linux based systems. Patching, performance monitoring, troubleshooting the various Linux distributions. Including but not limited to: Oracle Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, Open SUSE. Solaris: Support and maintain the institution's Solaris systems. Patching, performance monitoring, troubleshooting the university's Solaris systems. Maintain the Oracle Sun hardware via Oracle support. VMWare: Build and maintain virtual servers within the institutions Vcenter. Monitor performance, identify and resolve technical issues. Maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of application, database, and other systems. systems/servers; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging the infrastructure. Collaborate with Systems Engineering and Networking staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes. Collaborate with DevOps staff to ensure smooth application performance of institutional systems. All other administrative tasks relating to the availability and performance of the institutions Linux and Solaris based systems. Create and maintain operational, change management, and security documentation as it relates to the Linux / Solaris infrastructure, patch, maintenance, and service records. Conduct research on and evaluate hardware, software, and service records. Conduct research on and evaluate hardware, software, and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts. Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years lead technical experience in required skills Working experience with Linux, Solaris, VMware vCenter. Preferred Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science or closely related field required. Certifications: Linux +, LPIC-1, LPIC-2, LPIC-3, Solaris 11 Working experience with Linux, Solaris 11, and technologies related to key responsibilities Working experience with VMware vCenter Working experience with SAN and NAS Conditions of Employment:
