Unit Description: The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will work in a dynamic healthcare environment, providing care for patients with various needs, including trach care, bariatrics, nocturnal ventilation, and stroke care. The staffing ratio is 1:5 for Step Down/Progressive Care Unit (SD/PCU) and 1:6 if floated to acute care. The Medical Surgical Department (MSD) cares for patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD), the Critical Stroke Department (CSD) cares for stroke patients, and the Surgical Services Department (SSD) cares for surgical patients. Floating will occur within specialty to Elmer as needed.
Additional Information:
- Position: Patient Care Technician (PCT/CNA)
- Transportation: Must have reliable transportation; will be floated to Elmer if needed.
- Responsibilities: The PCT takes direction from the registered nurse and is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean environment in patient rooms and service areas. The PCT assists licensed personnel with basic patient needs and monitors health and vital signs.
Required Experience:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or Patient Care Technician (PCT) in an acute care setting.
- Must have patient bedside experience, including taking vital signs.
Certification/Licensure:
- Current certification as a CNA, PCT, or CMA is required.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
General Information:
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend.
- Scrub Color: Steel Grey.
- Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday.
- Request Time Off (RTO): No more than 3 days.
Call off:
- Client may cancel (call-off) up to one (1) shift per two week period without paying for the cancelled hours.
First day instructions(FDI):
- FDI are emailed directly by the hospital. Please expect 3 emails on the Friday before Monday start date. Please be sure to look in the junk folder as well – emails are sent usually around 2:00 pm on Friday.
- Monday is a virtual day - Teams call starts around 8:30 - 9 am. Invite/link sent via email. After the Teams meeting, continue the day with 'at your pace' modules sent by the facility.
- Badge appointment is emailed by the facility to issue the badge and review policy/procedures. The ID badge is very important to obtain prior to Orientation Shift. This is how you will clock in and out – so you can be paid accurately.
- Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday – orientation classes are scheduled ONSITE 1-4 hours long in early afternoon and details are sent after Monday meeting is completed. These are MUST attend and cannot be rescheduled or missed- you will take the end of class assignment which is required to schedule the orientation shift.
- Orientation shift - Fri/Sat/Sun shift which will be at the time of the shift hired for and schedule will be made available after Tue/Wed/Thur orientation classes have been completed.
- The POCT class is scheduled for the 2nd or 3rd week of the assignment. Please share your POCT class date with us once received and remember to attend.
- You must be available for the full 7 days of the first week for Orientation. No special scheduling is permitted for orientation. If you cannot attend or miss any part of the full orientation the offer will be rescinded.
