Employment Opportunities At MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center
Act as technical information resource for MercyOne Des Moines Laboratory. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and use knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and resolve them. Consult with Medical Technologists and/or Medical Laboratory Scientists when appropriate. Performs tasks and procedures specific to assigned section with minimal supervision.
Uses educational and technical expertise to troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status. Assists and supports quality management systems and performance improvement initiatives. Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records. Maintains supply inventories. Trains new employees and acts as preceptor for laboratory students. Operates laboratory information systems, personal computers, and instrument-related computer software. Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in science-related field. Successful completion of a N AACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program or alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements. Certification in one of the following: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). A person may be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration for the certification exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills required.
