Aerospace & Defense startup currently in Stealth based in El Segundo, made up of former SpaceX, Anduril, and Lockheed engineers, applying the SpaceX model to mass produce life-saving systems. Backed by joint staff level military leadership and several major SV firms, their first product is designed for immediate deployment around the world starting with Ukraine where the need is critical.
Job Overview :
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader with an extensive background in mechanical and electromechanical design, ideally with strong rocket and/or missile systems experience. This individual should excel in managing large programs and technical responsibilities while mentoring across various disciplines. The role involves steering technical design, program management, test execution, and daily engineering decision-making. It is a full-time leadership position requiring hands-on involvement in engineering challenges and delivering company objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a mechanical team of 5-10 engineers, executing on ambitious timelines with startup resources.
- Engage deeply with design, fabrication, and testing challenges, holding individuals accountable while fostering learning and initiative.
- Serve as the hiring manager for the mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
- Lead team meetings and collaborate with leads across multiple teams to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Work with the executive team to set and manage system requirements, timelines, and execution as the Responsible Engineer for hardware success.
- Lead from the front, pushing a rigorous development cycle while addressing staff needs and concerns.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years as an individual contributor/responsible engineer with extensive technical expertise.
- 3+ years in leadership roles within fast-paced, innovative aerospace or technology organizations.
- 3+ years of experience in aerospace, preferably with missile or rocket systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- Proven track record of motivating teams and delivering results.
- Experience from design and development through scaled manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
- 5+ years experience in startups.
- 5+ years in management within flat organizational structures.
- Experience in business development, budgeting, and planning.
- Hobbies include machining, soldering, flying drones or rockets, and a desire for work that aligns with these interests.
