HDR is a Top 10 Architectural & Engineering (A&E) firm in the United States, ranked by Engineering News Record, and is one of the largest employee-owned A&E companies in the country. We have been selected to manage the Installation Engineering and Management functions for the Civil Engineer Squadron at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). We will be deploying a multidisciplinary team of 50+ professionals at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, starting in early 2026 for an eight-year contract through 2034. The USAFA is a premier institution with a rich history, tasked with educating future Air Force leaders. HDR will provide facility management services including planning, design, asset management, construction inspection, energy management, real estate, environmental, cultural resources, space planning, CAD, GIS, cost estimating, and more.
Ideal candidates will have experience with federal contracts and/or the Air Force Civil Engineering Squadron, and a strong enthusiasm to support cadets and future Air Force leaders in state-of-the-art facilities.
This full-time position is located on-site at USAFA, with an expected start date of March 1, 2026.
In the role of Energy Manager, responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with project teams to design energy-efficient buildings and systems
- Participating in energy audits and recommending conservation measures
- Managing energy models and preparing documentation for LEED credits
- Serving as the base energy manager and overseeing energy management programs
- Conducting facility audits, utility rate calculations, and preparing reports
- Supporting energy projects and sustainability initiatives
Preferred qualifications include:
- 10 years of experience in DOD energy management
- Prior Air Force Civil Engineering Squadron experience
- Ability to work on-site at USAFA and pass a background check
- Certification by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)
- U.S. citizenship and a commitment to our employee-owned culture

Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field
- At least 7 years of relevant experience
- Proven expertise in energy-efficient building design and systems
- Understanding of mechanical systems, controls, and technical facilities
- Experience with energy modeling software like eQuest
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
