Job Description
The Telemetry Monitor Technician position reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
The purpose of Centralized Telemetry is to provide an extra layer of cardiac monitoring and safety to patients requiring continuous telemetry monitoring. Trained monitor technicians will provide this surveillance from the Central Telemetry Monitoring Center, notifying nurses of any rhythm changes.
Responsibilities
- Continuous cardiac surveillance for up to 48 patients per monitor technician, including interpretation, documentation, and quality assurance of EKG rhythms.
- Alarm management in collaboration with bedside nurses, maintaining alarms at all times.
- Documentation of cardiac monitor strips for patient records, including timely printing, interpretation, and reporting of rhythms.
- Admission and discharge of patients into the cardiac monitoring system per physicians orders, ensuring correct setup and removal of telemetry equipment.
- Regular review of telemetry necessity every 24 hours, with communication to nurses and physicians regarding ongoing need.
Additional Functions
- Maintenance and cleaning of telemetry equipment and supplies, reporting damaged equipment.
- Providing education on arrhythmia detection and orientation to new personnel.
Qualifications
Required:
- Passing score on advanced arrhythmia detection within 6 weeks of hire
- High School diploma
- Experience in healthcare
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred:
- Graduate of a cardiovascular tech program or paramedic course
- Experience with cardiac monitoring via a Central Telemetry system
