The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges. Responsibilities The Value Stream Manager will manage all resources (people, processes, machinery) associated with the Value Stream to assure delivery of quality product to commitments, manage costs through execution of the Morgan Production Systems, and ensure a zero harm environment to employees, through engagement, while meeting & continuously improving margins & lead times to assure customer & product segment growth. Brief Role Overview: The primary focus of the Value Stream Leader Role is to: Lead, control and coordinate the entire range of manufacturing activities within a given Product Line or Value Stream including safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity. The VS Manager is responsible for activities of the cells, area and equipment to ensure that the relevant activities, products or service are planned, processed and delivered to specified standards, within budget and target KPI’s. They empower the cell teams to assure ability and commitment to achieve Value Stream KPI’s and resolve issues within the cell through implementation of Daily Group Accountability (DGA) and support coaching, training, and effective delegation through the DGA process. The VS Manager is also expected to champion and facilitate the adoption and integration of lean manufacturing and best practice techniques through implementation of the Morgan Production System (MPS) to assure performance improvements and increasing operational efficiencies to delight customers while increasing Morgan margins. The VS Manager ensures the above by effectively utilizing all resources within the area and proactively planning and engaging with other departments/areas to ensure a collaborative approach and effective resolution of issues through the DGA process. Key Responsibilities: To always act and behave in a way compliant with all Morgan company guidelines and policies, especially those relating to health & safety, environment & core values. Lead by example, demonstrating high standards of behavior, honesty & integrity- developing and supporting people through coaching and feedback. Develop and implement Morgan Production System to manage relevant resources & KPI’s to meet customer & Morgan commitments. Execute the standard organization design to support VS Daily Group Accountability to assure KPI’s are aligned throughout the DGA’s with the requirements of the customer, business, site, internal customers etc. Develop processes to continuously improve delivery, quality, and cost using relevant MPS Lean Manufacturing Tools while creating a zero harm for our employees through DGA engagement, 6S, DWB, and Take 5. Support SIOP process to assure customer commitments are aligned with current capability and capacity. Cascade information, plans, priorities, feedback through critical DGA team briefs, 1-1’s, visible management systems and MBWA. Primary Responsibilities and Deliverables: Coordinate between operations and sales to assure commitments are aligned with current capability and capacity. Where Morgan delivery commitment does not align with customer demand develop efficiency & capital plans to align. Responsible for executing all aspects of MPS to assure we are continuously executing efficiencies to reduce lead times to increase capacity and margin while assuring a zero-harm environment & culture. Responsible to develop and manage FY Strategic Improvement Priorities (SIP’s), through Strategy Deployment, to assure the above. These SIP’s will be incorporated into Performance Management Goals. Report on SIP’s and associated KPI’s in monthly Strategy Deployment. Lead team in Continuous Improvement events to eliminate waste and improve efficiencies per Value Stream Mapping events & identified Kaizen Lists. Participate in development of yearly Strategy Deployment goals and objectives for Value Stream. Work with Sales and Site Lead to represent the Value Stream during SIOP meetings and make commitments that align with capacity and capability of the Value Stream. Flow down customer requirements to Value Stream team. Ensure achievement of all Operational KPI’s for associated Value Stream (Revenue, OTD, LTA’s, Scrap, etc.) Support team by leading DGA2 and DGA process to remove obstacles and prioritizing workflow as needed to meet customer requirements. Secondary Responsibilities: Work regularly with Operations Managers /Site Leader to manage and control quality and resulting scrap to protect program profit and the company goals. Work with engineers to ensure that all customer requirements are understood, implemented, and met throughout the value stream. Communicate regularly with engineers to ensure changes and uses are flowed expediently to customers, contracts, and the Value Stream. Ensure capacity and capability are continually planned and represented in SIOP meeting to meet agreed customer requirements and work and information flow are documented and regularly reviewed to ensure smooth and rapid execution of customer requirements. Overall capacity planning, allocation of reserve capacity, identification of planned shutdowns and allocation of down-time for maintenance (Value Stream capacity). Identification of opportunities for cross training and capacity training to enhance capacity and responsiveness to know customer requirements. Ensuring a smooth interface with supporting departments not under the VS leader’s direct control (e.g., Supply chain, Sales, Finance, Quality, Engineering). Manage individual and team performance, regularly reviewing with Supervisors, Leads, and Engineers, rewarding excellence and the achievement or bettering of targets and taking corrective action when necessary. Align Value Stream to all safety policies and practices through ThinkSafe and MPS. Responsible for managing production team members time and attendance. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Communication skills - above average presentation, written and verbal communication skills. Needs to be able to communicate with all levels and functions of the organization. Root Cause and Corrective action problem solving skill, Green Belt preferred. Demonstrate strong management and leadership skills as a member of the Operations Management staff. Ability to handle diverse situations when working with employees, and provide discipline as necessary. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 35 pounds. Must be physically fit to work around various types of industrial equipment. Must have physical capabilities commensurate with the job’s requirements. Must have a high safety awareness of self, others and surrounding environment. EDUCATION This position requires a college degree or equivalent work experience. Preferred background in manufacturing ceramics, composites, or metals, either ferrous or non-ferrous. Preferred background in a fabrication shop and be familiar with stamping, forgings high speed passes or ring making.
