The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Pediatrics- Endocrinology has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Classroom Nurse Educator 1 to work in Miami. The Nurse Educator 1 is a Registered Nurse responsible for unit(s)-specific professional development of the staff. The Nurse Educator 1 serves as a clinical resource and role model within their area of expertise. The incumbent fulfills unit(s) functions according to the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) roles of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty, and partner for practice transitions. The Nurse Educator 1 carries out these responsibilities in alignment with the current Nursing Professional Development Scope & Standards of Practice and utilizing the nursing process as applied to the specialty (assessment, learning needs and outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation).Core Responsibilities include collaborating with Nurse Educators and Manager to support and implement unit educational programs, developing activities to improve knowledge and skills, creating a learning environment, coordinating education of patient care staff, documenting and supporting competency, facilitating orientation and onboarding, maintaining professional knowledge, participating in continuing education, and adhering to policies. Department specific functions include answering emergency calls, providing documentation to parents and schools, staying abreast of technology and medications for diabetic patients, working closely with school nurses and the Pediatric Diabetes service, training school nurses and patients/parents on diabetic care and equipment, providing clinic services, ordering supplies and prescriptions, obtaining prior authorizations, liaising with Pediatric Psychology, assisting with transition to Adult Endocrinology, and supporting projects and conferences.Core qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, minimum 2 years of relevant experience, valid State of Florida RN license, BLS from American Heart Association, bilingual English/Spanish or English/Creole preferred, Certified Diabetes Educator preferred, and skills in learning agility, teamwork, technical proficiency, and communication.
