Job Summary:
The Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a board certified/board eligible Orthopedic Surgeon with a sub-specialty in Minimally Invasive Degenerative and Complex Deformity Adult Spine Surgery. All candidates must have completed a 5-year residency and a one-year fellowship, have an interest in developing a clinical practice, interest in research endeavors, and participate in our resident/fellowship education program.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Conduct thorough patient consultations, examinations, and assessments. Develop personalized treatment plans for individuals with spinal conditions. Perform surgical interventions using MIS techniques for various spinal disorders, including but not limited to herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spinal deformities, fractures, and spinal tumors. Follow up with patients to monitor progress and post-operative care.
Surgical Expertise:
Execute complex spinal procedures employing MIS approaches, ensuring precision and optimal patient outcomes. Utilize advanced surgical technology and tools to perform spinal surgeries including (but not limited to) robotics, navigation, and augmented/virtual reality. Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure a seamless and efficient operating room environment.
Research and Innovation:
Engage in continuous learning and stay updated with the latest advancements in spinal surgery, particularly in the field of MIS. Participate in research activities, clinical trials, and contribute to scientific publications. Performs clinical and/or basic science research related to spine specific conditions and prepares manuscripts for publication in conjunction with the orthopedic spine research group.
Education:
Provides health education to patients and families; may train and supervise medical students, residents, fellows, mid-level students and other health professional students engaged in specific clinical activities. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Participate (attend, give talks, help organize) in educational programs including weekly academic conferences, journal clubs, etc. Will assist in community outreach events including giving educational talks, organizing, planning, and attending. Develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and post-operative care. Gives power point and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional, local and national meetings.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in the Denver Metro area, primarily UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital (HRH).

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Associate Professor
Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery. Completion of an Orthopedic subspecialty fellowship in Spine Surgery. Proven experience in performing complex spinal surgeries using MIS techniques with at least 10 years’ experience. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, research or clinical activity and performance in scholarly activity.
Professor
Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery. Completion of an Orthopedic subspecialty fellowship in Spine Surgery. Proven experience in performing complex spinal surgeries using MIS techniques with at least 10 years’ experience. Continued achievement and a National Reputation in area of expertise.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a wide range of surgical procedures, from minimally invasive spine surgeries to complex spinal reconstructions. Ability to analyze complex cases and make decisions on suitable treatment plans. Flexibility to handle unforeseen challenges during surgery and make real-time decisions for the patient's well-being. Ability to explain complex medical conditions in a way that patients and their families can understand. Compassion and patience to support patients through their medical journey, providing emotional support and guidance.

HIRING RANGE:
Associate Professor
$450,000 - $550,000
Professor
$550,000- $700,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
