Date posted 7月. 24, 2025 Job Summary: The Data Storage and Backups team is seeking a Storage Engineer with expertise in on-premises commercial, enterprise-grade, storage solutions commonly accessed via NFS and SMB protocols.As an essential member of our team, you'll apply your understanding of high-performance computing (HPC) storage architectures to administer and help architect our centralized storage infrastructure. We're seeking an individual who can enhance system management, help compile and visualize relevant metadata, and track performance metrics. Success in this role requires technical proficiency, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse teams clearly. Given our studio's highly customized and proprietary environment, a strong aptitude for continuous learning and the ability to integrate evolving storage technologies are crucial.This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced professional with the right blend of skills to make a significant impact within our studio.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide operational support for our on-prem HPC storage systems
Collaborate with vendors to develop and conduct proof-of-concept tests for new storage technologies and implementations
Work with internal and external engineering teams to implement and integrate targeted solutions that help our technical artists understand their storage usage
Foster relationships with department team peers, production department artists, show leadership, other Disney studios, and industry counterparts
Actively create a positive workspace whereby questions and concerns of team members can be voiced openly and honestly
Clearly and comprehensively author and articulate project roadmaps, scenarios, and pitches to different technical, production, and leadership audiences
Ability to assist in the development of software tools that enhance storage administration, automate repetitive tasks, and provide visualization of key metadata and performance metrics
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proven experience utilizing scale-out file storage solutions incorporating NFS, SMB, and S3 protocols
Familiarity with developing solutions within legacy technical boundaries
Must be able to participate in a shared storage systems on-call rotation for critical issues, with support and resources provided
Experience in system administration supporting Linux, automated OS installation, package management, diagnostic, and performance troubleshooting/profiling
Familiar with programming languages such as Python, Go, or similar, with experience modifying tools to support infrastructure or storage environments
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Familiarity with storage infrastructure automation and monitoring tools
Proficiency in building software solutions that integrate with both relational and non-relational database environments
Experience using Revision Control Systems, such as git
Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation
Familiarity with virtualization and container platforms
The hiring range for this position in Emeryville is $119,000.00 to $154,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
