Overview
The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking postdoctoral researchers to work on distributed quantum computing. The project aims to develop superconducting qubit-based quantum processors and connect them via a campus-scale fiber-optic network. The postdocs will design and fabricate superconducting transmon qubits and microwave-optical quantum transducers and characterize the devices in a dilution refrigerator. The postdocs will work with other team members and collaborators to perform remote quantum transduction and computing experiments in the quantum network. The project will take advantage of CNM's state-of-the-art facilities and capabilities; in particular, the CNM cleanroom for nanofabrication and the dilution refrigerator in the Quantum Matter and Device Lab for low-temperature quantum experiments. The successful candidate will be part of a highly collaborative team and actively interact with Argonne and UChicago scientists as well as external collaborators. The candidate should have a strong background in experimental physics and/or engineering, or in a relevant field. Experience in superconducting qubits, nanofabrication, photonics, and low-temperature experiments are highly preferred. Position Requirements
PhD in physics or related field; received within the last 5 years or upcoming year Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork. Strong background in experimental physics and/or engineering Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Considerable skills in collaboration. Preferred:
Experience in device nanofabrication. Experience in microwave and optical device characterization and measurement. Knowledge and good understanding of quantum information science. Experience with superconducting qubit design, fabrication, and measurement. Experience with microwave-optical transducers. Experience with dilution refrigerator operation and cryogenic experiments. The expected hiring range for this position is $70,758.00 - $117,925.00. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Additionally, comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package.
