Reporting to the Senior Vice President / General Manager, the Lead Data Modeler Engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, development, and deployment of data modeling and reporting capabilities utilizing Microsoft Azure Analysis Services, Azure Databricks, and Microsoft Power BI software platforms. The role is part of our Enterprise Data Platform team that manages the ingestion, storage, modeling, and consumption of data for Acosta and our clients. The Lead Modeling Engineer is also accountable for the optimization and automation of those BI solutions within Acosta's Enterprise Data Platform. This position is a #hybrid open to #anywhere. You will be expected to work on-site close to an Acosta Group office at least 3-days a week. Ideal candidates may be located in Jacksonville, FL; Lewisville (Dallas), TX; Rogers, AR; or Charlotte, NC. This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship (i.e., H1-B, H4, etc.). Responsibilities
Development of complex/advanced Azure Analysis Services (AAS) Tabular models with large volumes of data and advanced business logic, as well as enhancements to existing large/advanced AAS models. Creation of complex and efficient views in Azure Databricks to support AAS Tabular modeling requirements. Work closely with Project Managers / Scrum Masters, BI Architects, BI QA Analysts, and Data Engineering Developers in both Agile and Waterfall work settings to deliver solutions that meet business and product stakeholder requirements. Performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization of AAS and Power BI models. Mentor Junior and Senior Data Modelers in Power BI and AAS development, focusing on optimization and automation. Research and investigate new and emerging technologies for potential use in Microsoft and other BI platforms, including POC development and sharing solutions within the Data Platform team to drive efficiency and innovation. Continuously develop your BI, modeling, and data skills. Automate and schedule data refreshes for AAS models. Provision and size AAS resources appropriately. Develop new complex Power BI reports and enhance existing ones as needed. Familiarize with Acosta's services and supporting data solutions. Think critically about data model solutions, understanding their broader implications, and extracting actionable insights. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in relevant industry. Microsoft Certification: Data Analyst Associate. MCSA: BI Reporting. Microsoft Certification: Azure Data Engineer Associate. 10 years of related work experience. 7 years of experience with Microsoft SSAS, AAS, and data warehouse design for BI. 5 years of experience with data analytics and report development software. 5 years of experience in Power BI, including M Query and DAX development. Experience with ETL tools such as Azure Databricks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expertise in Power BI, including Vertipaq engine, performance monitoring, query analysis, and large model optimization. Deep understanding of RDBMS foundations and best practices for data and reporting optimization. Advanced proficiency in AAS (or SSAS) tabular models, including data loading, relationships, security, processing, and partitioning. Solid foundation in Azure Databricks workspace navigation, notebooks, gateways, and DSNs. Strong problem-solving and debugging skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
