Environmental Resource Management (ERM) is seeking a Principal Consultant, Capital Project Delivery to play a key role in growing our power sector business. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success leading permitting tasks on capital development projects, including electric transmission lines, overseeing staff, assessing environmental conditions and impacts, and possessing strong technical writing and communication skills. Experience permitting transmission line projects in and permitting experience is highly desired. The candidate will ideally be located in Milwaukee , but candidates elsewhere in the Northeast or Midwest will be considered. This position focuses on providing permitting support for electric transmission, distribution, and renewable energy projects. Projects are fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The candidate must work independently and in teams, managing multiple priorities and tasks to meet deadlines. Strong organizational skills are essential. The role may include serving as a project or task manager on multidisciplinary projects. As a principal project manager, you will contribute leadership, client relationship, and technical consulting skills to support ERM’s growth. You will network with ERM's global impact assessment team and technical experts to share best practices. Responsibilities: Manage and provide expertise on permitting projects for clients with complex issues. Prepare permit applications for federal, state, or local authorities for energy projects. Familiarity with USACE and other permitting requirements. Develop plans, schedules, and management reports. Participate in agency consultations, meetings, and client communications. Collaborate on natural resources impact assessments and permitting services. Travel up to 20% for meetings and site visits. Build relationships with clients and ERM team members. Leverage existing client relationships to expand ERM’s market share. Requirements: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, or related field. 6-8+ years of experience working with power clients on complex projects under regulatory frameworks, preferably in VA/Mid-Atlantic U.S. Knowledge of key natural resource regulations such as the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Historic Preservation Act. Experience reviewing environmental plans and permits. Ability to research and prepare technical documents. Strong team-building, influencing, and communication skills.
