Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems provides an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network - Global Network Engineer (25-316) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This role, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a crucial part in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital component of the Missile Defense System. It is a crucial operational system that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control designated networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that delivers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. The candidate will serve as an S8.2 Network Development Engineer responsible for planning, deploying, integrating, and testing upgrades to the S8.2 C2BMC network at operational sites. The candidate will need to travel to remote locations to perform network installations following Program configuration management processes, independently troubleshoot issues, and provide status updates to the Program personnel.
Essential Functions:
- Must be a proven network engineer with practical experience and knowledge of network architecture design, development, and testing methods
- Extensive and proven experience in network development, including creating, testing, and deploying new and upgraded capabilities
- Experience with network automation, including both the development and deployment of network and management systems
- Demonstrated experience with Ansible or similar automation tools
- Experience in loading and modifying MIBs and SEED files, writing scripts for network automation, and developing fixlets to be used with IBM BigFix for efficient deployment of updates in the fielded environment
- Practical experience with monitoring, network diagnostics, and network analytics tools
- Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills, proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a team with other highly motivated network engineers, as well as independently at times on large field projects
- Must demonstrate proven troubleshooting skills
Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
- Applicants must possess a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is required to start
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs are required
- Industry vendor certifications from Juniper (JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE) are required

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with scripts is a plus
- A solid understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF
- Experience in UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE Tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs
- Hands-on experience with multi-vendor switching and routing (Juniper)
- Cisco (CCNA, CCNP) is a plus
- Candidates with experience in planning and supporting the deployment of network infrastructure are highly sought after
- Previous experience with the C2BMC network is also a plus
