PG&E’s Corporate Development and Economic Analytics (CDEA) team is a high-impact group within the Finance & Risk organization. We serve as internal consultants, delivering strategic financial insights that shape the future of the company. Our work spans corporate finance, regulatory strategy, enterprise forecasting, and strategic financial transactions.
We collaborate across all lines of business and are trusted advisors to PG&E’s senior leadership and Board of Directors.
Why This Role Matters
As a Principal Strategic Analyst, you will lead the development of sophisticated financial and strategic analyses that influence PG&E’s most critical decisions. You’ll work on high-visibility projects, from enterprise-wide financial forecasting to regulatory policy design, and play a key role in shaping the company’s financial health and long-term strategy.
The role is hybrid working from your remote office and in-person at the Oakland General Office once a week, on average, but could scale up based on business needs or company requirements.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $136,000
Bay Area Maximum: $232,000

What You’ll Do
Strategic & Financial Analysis
Lead complex financial modeling and scenario analysis to support decisions on capital structure, decarbonization, and customer affordability. Drive analysis of business opportunities and significant financial and strategic transactions. Evaluate funding strategies and enterprise-wide financial forecasts. Translate financial analysis into actionable insights and recommendations.
Executive Communication & Influence
Present findings to senior executives and the Board of Directors. Craft compelling narratives using data to drive decision-making. Anticipate challenges and proactively offer creative, data-driven solutions.
Regulatory Strategy & Policy Development
Represent PG&E in regulatory proceedings and industry forums (e.g., CPUC, CEC, FERC, CAISO). Develop and sponsor testimony on complex financial and policy issues. Influence regulatory and legislative outcomes that align with PG&E’s strategic goals.
Leadership & Mentorship
Lead cross-functional initiatives and special projects. Mentor junior analysts and foster a culture of analytical excellence. Drive innovation in modeling, data analysis, and strategic thinking.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field (e.g., Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Operations Research) or equivalent work experience 8 years of experience in financial, strategic, or regulatory analysis
Preferred Qualifications, Key Skills & Competencies:
Master’s degree in quantitative or analytical discipline. Deep understanding of utility industry dynamics and regulatory frameworks. Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic initiatives. Strong communication skills with the ability to distill complex data into compelling narratives. Strategic thinking and business acumen. Advanced financial modeling and data analysis. Strong leadership and project management capabilities. Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive clarity in decision-making. Expertise in regulatory policy and economic analysis.
