Position Overview Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, a global law firm, is offering an exciting full-time opportunity for a Software Patent Associate/Patent Agent within our Intellectual Property Practice Group. This non-remote position offers flexibility regarding office locations including Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, San Francisco, and Washington DC. The Patent Associate will work directly with clients across various industries nationally and internationally, supporting a robust IP practice to develop and enhance legal and business skills.
This role involves supporting patent portfolio development, including procurement, prosecution, client counseling, and portfolio management. Additional responsibilities include patent analysis and litigation support.
Qualifications and Experience
1-4 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience, specifically in the software arts (e.g., machine learning, cloud computing/networking, cryptography, information security, distributed ledger technology).
A BS degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering, or a BA in computer science is preferred; other degrees may be considered.
Experience in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science, especially with wireless communications, robotics, or electrical components, is desirable.
Active bar admission in California, New York, Oregon, Washington, or Washington, D.C., for Patent Attorneys.
Registered to practice before the USPTO.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large docket and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with large organizations' patent programs, including international ones.
Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
