Simulation Operations Specialist

Under the direction of the Director of Simulated Clinical Education, the Simulation Operations Specialist assists with simulation activities and operation of the Simulation Lab (SL), in the Simulated Environment Teaching Hospital (SETH). The Simulation Operations Specialist collaborates with faculty and staff to design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based learning experiences (SLE) according to best-practice standards in simulation to assist students in meeting established course and program objectives. This includes providing technical and pedagogical support and maintaining current knowledge of simulators and simulation equipment. The Simulation Operations Specialist collaborates with simulation staff in the collection of simulation data and serves as a host and information resource for SL tours, events and visits. The Simulation Operations Specialist works independently on assigned simulation-related projects and reports. Serving Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University (FranU) students and the community is paramount. To provide a consistent quality experience across the University, the FranU Way, outlined in the Employee Handbook, is used to describe service expectations for all employees. The employee must also adhere to the SETH protocols as stated in the SETH Policy and Procedure Manual. This position is a 12-month, full-time placement. Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Misson Engagement
Actively engages the Catholic and Franciscan mission and identity of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University by modeling the Franciscan values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting justice for the communities we serve, and integrating the Catholic and Franciscan intellectual traditions in program, courses and services
Simulation Laboratory Operations
Maintain and operate Simulation Laboratories, high-fidelity simulators, and multimedia peripherals Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
Simulation Scenario Production
Provide theatrical production elements (props, costuming, moulage) for realistic simulation scenarios and create fake body fluids and wounds
Teaching and Training
Participate in Simulation teaching and obtain/maintain ACLS and BLS Instructor certifications to facilitate courses Provide technical assistance and training to faculty, instructors, and staff
Department Procedures and Safety
Maintain safe conditions, ensure OSHA compliance, EPA certifications, and MSDS sheets Collect and evaluation simulation data for continuous improvement Ensure adherence to Safety policies
SETH Training Institute Site Coordinator
Uphold American Heart Association (AHA) Program policies and procedures, act as liaison to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center AHA Training Center, and manages payment processes related to the SETH Training Institute
Accreditation and Compliance
Participate in the accreditation process Ensure University and SETH Policy and Procedures Manual standards are met
Event Participation and Collaboration
Engage in SETH-related events (i.e., Open Houses, Simulation Week, Summer Camps, etc.) and collaborate with Campus Technology staff, as needed
Professional Development and Skills
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Simulation Technology and Best Practices Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, and management skills Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills
Other Duties as Assigned
Perform other job-related activities such as reporting to work 30 minutes before scheduled simulations to set up, communicating with manufacturers, and engaging in educational endeavors to maintain currency with simulation technology
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE Previous experience in collaborative initiatives, preferred; Previous experience with Simulation Education, preferred; Previous experience in a leadership role, preferred
EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or other Clinical Discipline, required Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), preferred
SPECIAL SKILLS Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory, and clinical settings, preferred; Knowledge of Clinical Simulation Best Practices; Knowledge of Standardized Patient Best Practices; Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community; Organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate simulation activities; Independent initiative; Proficiency with Microsoft Office, computer operation, electronic medical records; Management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through on assignments to completion; Ability to collaborate with IT and vendor contacts; Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual, and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 30 pounds without assistance
