Engineering Manager - Social Layer of Gaming Discord connects over 200 million people each month, with over 90% of users spending a combined 1.5 billion hours gaming together. As we continue to lead the future of gaming, Discord is looking for a highly technical, creative, and empathetic Engineering Manager for our Social Layer of Gaming team. The Social Layer team is building tools for game developers to integrate Discord’s power into their games, enabling players to connect, collaborate, and create meaningful experiences. Build and Lead Engaged Teams: Hire, coach, and inspire your team to take ownership and make a lasting impact on our platform. Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product, Design, Global Partnerships, and Marketing teams to define your team’s roadmap and vision based on Game Developer needs. Set Technical Strategy: Work with your engineers to design scalable solutions and define the architecture of our SDK, ensuring we maintain high technical standards. Foster Growth: Mentor engineers and provide career development opportunities that align with their technical aspirations and goals. Strategic Planning: Partner with senior leadership to contribute to long-term strategy, continuously improving our engineering practices and workplace philosophy. What You Should Have:

5+ Years of Software Engineering Experience: Strong experience as a Software Engineer. 2+ Years of Engineering Management Experience: Proven track record of managing and growing high-performing engineering teams. Experience with C++ SDKs: You’ve either built or managed SDKs in C++ and understand the technical intricacies involved. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong communication skills, with the ability to work seamlessly across different teams and backgrounds. Comfort with Ambiguity: You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and are excited to find creative solutions to complex problems. Mentorship and Development: You’re passionate about helping your team succeed and growing engineers’ careers. Holistic Problem Solving: You approach challenges from first principles and are committed to learning from mistakes to continuously improve. Bonus Points:

Game Development Experience: Experience with game engines like Unreal or Unity is a big plus. Discord User: Familiarity with Discord’s core features and communication flow. SDK Expertise: Any additional experience with SDK architecture or platform integrations will set you apart. Why Discord?
