We’re seeking a Staff Robotics Software Engineer to lead the development of advanced robotic control and autonomy software. In this senior role, you’ll architect and implement real-time systems that drive novel robotic platforms, working across motion planning, perception, and machine control. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering, to prototype and deploy intelligent robotic systems that push technical boundaries. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring engineers, establishing software practices, and helping shape the culture of a high-performance technical team. What You’ll Do: Architect and develop core robotics software components for motion planning, control loops, state estimation, and actuation. Design real-time machine control systems that interface with embedded microcontrollers, motor drivers, and complex actuation mechanisms. Build and integrate with simulation and testing environments using tools like Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or similar. Leverage and extend robotics frameworks like ROS2, including message transport, node orchestration, and hardware abstraction. Contribute to cross-functional design efforts involving sensing, perception, and control hardware. Guide the technical direction of projects by evaluating tradeoffs and setting architectural patterns. Lead code reviews, pair programming, and provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. Help build scalable practices for software integration, CI/CD, simulation, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. Collaborate closely with product leads and founders to align technology development with venture goals. What We’re Looking For: 8+ years of professional experience in robotics software, real-time systems, or autonomous systems. Deep expertise in robotic control systems, including motion control, trajectory planning, and closed-loop feedback systems. Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, particularly in performance-sensitive, multithreaded, or embedded contexts. Hands-on experience with middleware (e.g., ROS2 or MAVLink) and modern simulation tools (e.g., Gazebo or Isaac Sim). Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, CAN, or other low-latency messaging systems. Experience integrating physical peripherals (sensors, actuators, controllers) into software platforms. Track record of leading technical projects or teams; skilled at mentoring and growing engineering talent. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Preferred, but not required: Experience in aerial robotics, mobile manipulation, or dynamic actuation platforms. Exposure to safety-critical software systems and motion planning under constraints. Comfort working in fast-paced startup environments and rapidly iterating on prototype designs. Join a small, elite team tackling first-principles robotics challenges with real-world impact.
