SDET Application Architect
who will help lead our SDET practices and serve as the Product Owner for a future Automation/SDET dedicated scrum team. This individual will coordinate test automation activities for SDETs assigned to business-focused scrum teams. The SDET Application Architect role is positioned between the Program Architect and the Principal Software Engineer and is responsible for providing technical direction and oversight across all our scrum teams. They will work closely with the Program Architect to understand business needs and identify technical solutions, collaborating with other architects to promote innovation, reusability, stability, scalability, and consistency. The role involves providing technical direction, mentoring, and participating as an individual contributor for complex tasks and proofs of concept. The individual will research new technologies to stay current and introduce innovative opportunities, with a passion for quality and continuous delivery. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of test automation, performance engineering, and quality visibility across our Retirement product landscape. Youll lead a team of SDETs, define standards, and ensure automation is scalable, maintainable, and measurable across Retirement IT. Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide holistic automation leadership for Retirement IT and develop visibility into automation across all scrum teams. Set technical direction and provide proactive oversight to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, efficient, and stable. Collaborate with other architects to identify and confirm optimal solutions. Take ownership and provide technical leadership during production issues. Hold responsibility for application architecture and technical execution within the SDET program. Lead, coach, and mentor technical staff. Assist in performance management, succession planning, and skills development within the SDET community. Support onboarding of new SDETs. Participate in project discussions to remove impediments and establish estimates. Perform design and development for complex tasks as an active contributor. Ensure automation solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with CI/CD pipelines. Support disaster recovery testing and other quality initiatives. As Product Owner of the Automation/SDET Scrum Team: Provide roadmap and execute the teams backlog. Build and maintain automation backlog with visibility and measurement, possibly via dashboards. Establish standards, proof of concepts, and templates for rapid high-quality software production. Elaborate epics, themes, and features into achievable user stories. Participate in daily scrums, planning, reviews, and retrospectives. Maintain relationships with other Product Owners to coordinate work. Ensure ~65% CAP development on the Scrum team. Act as the primary internal and external point of contact for updates and feedback. Prioritize workload and team engagement based on extensive experience and judgment. Align with Product Owners to influence and deliver on roadmaps. Ensure the protection, security, and proper handling of all confidential data. Assist with other tasks and projects as needed. Demonstrate support for our I-Client service philosophy and Core Values of People Matter, Quality First, and Integrity Always in daily actions. Supervision Leadership, mentoring, and coaching. No HR responsibilities. Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements Minimum 12 years of Software Engineering experience, with at least 6 years in leadership. Experience with Agile/Scrum and acting as a Product Owner or similar role. Passion for leadership, mentoring, and coaching. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to influence architecture. Experience with CI/CD, server configuration, pipeline automation, and software engineering practices. Innovative, change-oriented personality balancing practicality and delivery. Experience with multiple databases: MS SQL Server, Sybase, Oracle, etc. Expertise in .NET, ASP.NET, MVC, Java, and Struts. Strong knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, and frameworks. Understanding of SOA and distributed computing. Experience with TDD and automated testing frameworks. Experience with performance/load testing tools and APM tools for monitoring. Experience with Cloud development, mobile apps, and messaging solutions. Strong troubleshooting skills.
