As CPU EM/IR CAD engineer, you will build and support the world’s best analysis tools and flows. Your tools and flows will ensure our custom CPUs have industry-leading power, performance and area.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Architect and recommend methodology improvements to ensure our silicon has the best power, performance and area.
- Maintain, support and debug EM/IR flows, and resolve project-specific issues.
- Work closely with worldwide CPU physical design teams, and provide methodology guidance and tools/flows support.
- Work with EDA vendors to define roadmap and to resolve tool issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expert user of Ansys Redhawk SC power integrity analysis tool and have exposure to PnR/STA and extraction industry standard tools and flow.
- Support and enhance static IR, dynamic IR, and electromigration flows at the block-level and subsystem levels.
- Provide guidance and feedback to PDN analysis engineers on EMIR best practices, rules, and methodologies.
- Troubleshoot and debug EMIR issues and provide solutions to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Develop, support, enhance scripts that can postprocess EMIR results to dashboard and summarize actionable results for design team.
- Maintain and release qualified flow releases for large and complex SoCs design & Implementation work.
- Maximize design productivity with strong/efficient Python/Tcl/Perl scripting skills and customization of tool flows.
- Qualify EMIR tools with regression management systems and newly written tests.
- Engage with EDA vendors in providing cutting edge single-box solutions for multi-scenario.
- Collaborate with EDA partners to determine/drive optimal and cutting-edge solutions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leverages advanced knowledge of computer architecture, micro-architecture, logic design, circuits, and/or physical design to develop and verify critical high performance and low power CPU designs.
• Anticipates, identifies, and solves highly complex problems to ensure design completeness, functionality, power, and performance.
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs (e.g., performance, power, cost, functionalities, etc.) in order to accomplish product goals.
• Evaluates all aspects of the design process from conceptualization to productization (i.e., architecture definition, feasibility, pre-silicon design and verification, and post-silicon validation) that meet customer and industry standards.
• Writes detailed technical documentation (e.g., feature descriptions, architectural descriptions, verification test plans, and implementation details, etc.) for highly complex CPU designs; reviews documentation of junior engineers.
Level of Responsibility:
• Works independently with minimal supervision.
• Provides supervision/guidance to other team members.
• Decision-making is significant in nature and affects work beyond immediate work group.
• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information. May require negotiation, influence, tact, etc.
• Has a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions.
• Tasks do not have defined steps; planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.
Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$198,700.00 - $298,100.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for our annual bonus).
