Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will primarily be working on the SQL Backup Restore support for Azure SQL DB and SQL Server. You will work to bring more capabilities and to enhance multiple features within the Backup Restore Area, define and design next generation of technologies to build a reliable, scalable and efficient Backup Restore solutions. Responsibilities In this role, you will be an individual contributor, working with a team of engineers to design, implement, and maintain features in the Backup Restore Engine that will benefit SQL Server and millions of customers on Azure SQL Databases. As a senior engineer, you will have the opportunity to define and design what the next generation of SQL Server will be, and an opportunity to develop excellent design skills. You will have the opportunity to grow as a technical leader, senior engineer, and a mentor to other engineers in the team. Opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders and architects to deliver timely products to partners and customers. Develop and maintain new features in SQL Server of the highest quality. Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and architecture discussions. Effective communication and group collaboration skills are essential. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Design and development experience in database engines, Backup Restore Technologies and operating system internals Other Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check. Preferred/Additional Qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python Expertise in relational database internals in one or more areas such as Backup/Restore, Logging and Recovery, transaction management etc. Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer.
