We’re looking for a
Senior/Staff Data Engineer
to improve and transform our expanding data capabilities. Reporting to the Head of Data, the Senior/Staff Data Engineer will collaborate closely with Data Science, Product, and Engineering to maintain and optimize our data infrastructure and analytics stack. The ideal candidate will have a background in a technical field, expertise working with large production data sets, and experience building & maintaining a Data Platform from the ground up. This position will be fully remote. Duties & Responsibilities
Design and Implement Data Solutions:
Lead translation of business requirements and end-to-end designs into technical implementations that align with VRChat's objectives. Strong Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Data Science, Product, and Engineering teams to build and maintain data products that drive VRChat's innovation. Data Warehouse Management:
Build and maintain batch and real-time data warehousing solutions using Snowflake on AWS to support VRChat's data needs. ETL Pipeline Development:
Develop complex data pipelines using SQL and Python to manage data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. Data Orchestration:
Implement and manage data orchestration tools (e.g., Dagster, Apache Airflow) to automate data workflows. Data Integration:
Integrate diverse data sources, including MongoDB and SQL databases (Postgres, MySQL), for comprehensive data analysis. Infrastructure Scalability and Optimization:
Identify opportunities to ensure scalability and performance of data infrastructure. Data Privacy and Security:
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and standards, prioritizing user privacy and data security. Experience, Skills & Qualifications
6+ years in data engineering and data modeling. Strong analytical problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously. Expertise in SQL and Python for data pipeline development. Deep experience with data warehousing concepts and Snowflake. Familiarity with MongoDB and SQL databases (Postgres, MySQL). Extensive experience with AWS or other cloud services. Advanced expertise with data orchestration tools like Dagster or Apache Airflow. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Bonus Points
Experience in data engineering within consumer tech, social media, or gaming sectors. Interest in social technology, gaming, or immersive experiences. Familiarity with distributed computing engines like Spark, Flink, or Hive. Experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka or Kinesis. Understanding of VR, AR, and online communities. Relevant certifications (e.g., SnowPro, AWS Certified Data Analytics) are a plus. Basic understanding of Unity 3D development. Experience with social platforms, social gaming, or online environments. Creative and innovative problem-solving abilities. Experience with cloud-based ETL tools like Fivetran, Glue, or Hevo.
