UL Research Institutes Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Scientist at UL Research Institutes, based in our Columbia, Maryland office. The Senior Data Scientist will apply sophisticated mathematical and statistical theories to gather and evaluate fire safety research data, as well as generate insights to devise solutions for intricate business challenges. Collaborate with our Fire Safety and Materials Discovery Research Institute teams who conduct essential research to produce knowledge and apply it practically. What Youll Learn And Achieve As the Senior Data Scientist, you will: Lead statistical analyses on fire safety data to identify patterns, validate findings, and provide actionable insights. Build interactive dashboards to visualize fire safety data, aiding stakeholders in making informed decisions. Deliver data-driven insights to guide strategic decisions within fire safety amplification and communication. Manage data catalogs for internal and external use, ensuring easy access to research and analysis data. Transform complex data into visual formats like graphs and charts for effective communication. Create predictive models to improve fire safety strategies. Design and maintain scalable data pipelines using cloud services (Azure Synapse, Databricks, AWS Redshift) for large datasets. Assess data relevance from various sources, including sensors, open data, social media, and learning systems. Develop automation scripts for data extraction, transformation, and loading processes. Build NLP models using frameworks like BERT, XLNet, SpaCy, GPT-4 for research applications. Prototype new AI techniques and work with teams to integrate models into applications. Leverage programming skills across tools and languages, with up to 20% travel as needed. Ideal Candidate Profile The successful candidate will have: Experience in fire dynamics, safety research, large-scale data processing, and NLP techniques (BERT, XLNet, GPT-4). Proficiency with GIS tools like ArcGIS and market segmentation techniques. A Masters degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or related field, with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
