We are currently seeking a dynamic Construction Controller to oversee the financial operations of our innovative new construction division. This pivotal role presents a unique opportunity to establish financial frameworks and procedures from scratch, driving profitability within a rapidly expanding startup environment. The ideal candidate excels in uncertain circumstances, adept at juggling various roles while implementing optimal practices for future development. Controller Role
Financial Management & Reporting
Develop and oversee project budgets, forecasts, and financial models for construction initiatives. Generate monthly financial statements, variance reports, and project profitability analyses. Track cash flow and working capital needs across multiple projects. Ensure precise and timely recording of project expenses, revenues, and work-in-progress. Collaborate with project managers to monitor budget performance and identify cost overruns.
Cost Control & Analysis
Implement and maintain construction-specific cost accounting systems. Analyze material, labor, and equipment costs to detect trends and cost-saving opportunities. Review and authorize change orders, ensuring proper documentation and financial impact assessment. Conduct routine job cost evaluations and offer suggestions for cost-efficiency. Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess project financial well-being.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure adherence to accounting standards, tax protocols, and industry-specific guidelines. Oversee insurance claims, bonding conditions, and risk evaluation procedures. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including lien waiver management. Coordinate with external auditors and prepare audit documentation. Maintain internal controls and segregate duties for financial processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise accounting staff and offer direction on construction accounting principles. Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and field personnel on financial aspects. Present financial reports to senior management and stakeholders. Support business development initiatives with financial analysis and proposal preparation.
Controller Background Profile
Bachelors degree required; CPA preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience within the Construction industry. Experience with QuickBooks is advantageous. Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, growth-oriented setting.
