Senior Rust Engineer – High-Performance Systems (NYC, Onsite 4 Days)

An international hedge fund with a high-frequency trading (HFT) group is seeking a Senior Rust Engineer to help build the next generation of infrastructure for its interdealer brokerage operations. This role is a unique opportunity to work on ultra-low latency systems powering global markets at scale.

As part of a small, highly specialized engineering team, you will design and develop custom messaging systems, storage solutions, and trading tools that enable cutting-edge electronic trading and market connectivity. This is a hands-on position where you’ll work side-by-side with quantitative researchers and traders in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement high-performance, low-latency systems in Rust for mission-critical trading and brokerage operations.
• Build custom messaging protocols , distributed storage systems, and trading infrastructure tailored to the needs of a global HFT platform.
• Optimize systems for performance and reliability under extreme throughput demands.
• Collaborate closely with quantitative researchers, traders, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration with core trading workflows.
• Drive technical strategy for greenfield builds and modernization of existing systems.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of systems-level programming experience in Rust, C++, or similar languages (Rust experience preferred).
• Proven expertise building high-performance, distributed, and concurrent systems .
• Strong knowledge of low-latency architectures , networking protocols, and memory-safe programming.
• Experience working on custom messaging systems, storage layers, or trading tools is a major plus.
• Deep understanding of Linux internals and performance tuning.
• Comfortable working onsite 4 days per week in Midtown NYC to collaborate with global teams in a high-intensity environment.
