We are seeking a skilled and experienced Sybase Database Developer with over 5 years of IT experience to join our dynamic agile team. The ideal candidate will have a background in database and performance tuning using Sybase DB. You will work closely with application developers, business analysts, and system architects to migrate Sybase DB to Microsoft SQL server/Postgress SQL.
Must Haves
Familiarity with SQL Server architecture (instances, databases, filegroups)
Syntax differences and enhancements in SQL Server T-SQL (e.g., MERGE, TRY...CATCH) Differences in system stored procedures, error handling, and performance tuning Trigger syntax and behavior differences; avoid recursive triggers Mostly similar; some differences in indexing and schema binding SQL Server supports more advanced function types and features Some data types differ or have different behaviors (e.g., datetime2 vs datetime) More granular security and integration with Windows Authentication Learn SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) backup tools and strategies Use SQL Server Profiler, Database Engine Tuning Advisor, Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) Migration may involve SSIS for data transformation and load Familiarity with new tools and interfaces is necessary Use tools for schema and data migration; validate data integrity Automation of migration and post-migration tasks
Nice To Haves Working experience in SQL Server. Experience in Sybase to Postgres migration. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in an Agile team environment. Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD tools (e.g., Bamboo, CloudForge, GitHub Actions). Expected job responsibilities:
• SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)/Amazon SQL • T-SQL dialects (syntax and function differences) • SQL Server architecture and features (filegroups, tempdb) • Familiarize with Migration Tools: SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for Sybase will automate schema and data migration (this should be completed by the migration team but good to understand for any issues) • Backup and Recovery Procedures • Test and Validation for post migration Minimum education qualification
