We are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to join a dynamic, multicultural engineering team focused on innovation in high-performance converter systems. This role offers a blend of leadership, R&D, simulation, hardware/software design, and system commissioning for low, medium, and high-voltage power electronics applications across marine, energy, defense, and industrial sectors.
Ideal candidates are driven by a passion for designing highly efficient (98%+), precision control systems that withstand harsh conditions such as high vibration, condensation, shock, and arc flash.
Senior Power Electronics Engineer Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership in the simulation and design of new power conversion systems, including transformers, drives, passive components, and control platforms for applications such as marine propulsion, metals processing, power generation, and oil & gas
- Lead the development and execution of test plans for new drive systems, including lab and field validation
- Drive complex R&D projects with long-term technology impact
- Lead commissioning activities for critical or high-priority customer projects
- Perform advanced analyses (e.g., simulation, calculations, failure investigations) to resolve field or test issues
- Lead real-time and offline system-level electrical simulations to support converter and drive system design
- Review and approve specifications for converter controllers and test procedures for system commissioning
- Oversee development and testing of control software and HMIs using test benches and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation platforms
- Identify and drive development of engineering support tools that align with strategic technical goals
- Provide expert-level support to project and commissioning teams for challenging technical issues
- Ph.D. in Power Electronics or Electrical Engineering with 4+ years of experience
- OR Master's degree with 7+ years of experience in the field
- OR Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of experience in medium or high-voltage power converter design
- Deep experience with medium- and high-voltage systems, including practical field deployment
- Expertise in converter technologies such as MMC, multilevel VSI, LCI, DC drives, and cycloconverters
- Familiarity with variable-speed systems, STATCOM, or active harmonic filtering solutions
- Strong grasp of physical principles and ability to model, analyze, and explain complex electrical phenomena
- Skilled in mentoring junior engineers and leading technical teams
- Creative, collaborative, and passionate about continuous technical innovation
- Eligible for U.S. Secret Clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
- Willingness to travel as needed for project commissioning or critical support
