Description
Clearance Requirement: Eligibility for NASA Public Trust
We are seeking a highly skilled Network Architect to provide expert-level design, consulting, and planning support for network and telecommunications infrastructure under NASA’s Research and Education Support Services (NRESS) contract. This role requires advanced knowledge of cloud, SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture), and modern network design principles to ensure secure, scalable, and interoperable solutions that support the scientific and administrative systems critical to NASA’s research mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning, and evolution of network architecture to support enterprise systems, peer review platforms, cloud-based services, and communication infrastructure.
- Develop comprehensive network strategies and architecture roadmaps aligned with NASA’s performance, security, and operational requirements.
- Create implementation, cutover, and integration plans for new network capabilities, system migrations, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Assess current-state network designs and make recommendations for enhancements in security, interoperability, reliability, and performance.
- Provide consulting support to senior IT leadership and developers on system-to-system connectivity, cloud integration, and telecommunications protocols.
- Address and resolve complex networking challenges, leveraging sound technical judgment, especially in cases of incomplete or evolving data.
- Ensure network solutions are aligned with NASA and federal standards for cybersecurity, data integrity, and continuity of operations.
- Document architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, and policies to support both current operations and long-term planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 5–7 years of experience in enterprise network design, consulting, and architecture planning.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing secure and scalable architectures in cloud and hybrid environments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications systems, routing protocols, firewall and VPN configurations, and interoperability standards.
- Demonstrated ability to create and lead technical architecture reviews and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain a NASA Public Trust clearance.
- Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), AWS Certified Advanced Networking, or similar.
- Experience designing and supporting government or research agency network environments.
- Familiarity with SOA frameworks, containerized systems (e.g., Kubernetes), and zero trust architecture models.
- Knowledge of NASA enterprise systems or federal data security regulations (e.g., NIST 800-53).
As Network Architect for NASA NRESS, you’ll play a key role in shaping the secure and high-performing infrastructure that supports national research investments and scientific collaboration. You’ll bring strategic insight and hands-on technical expertise to a contract that directly supports NASA’s mission of discovery and innovation.
