Job Description
Are you an expert in industrial machinery and complex automation systems, looking for a role where your leadership and diagnostic prowess can make a significant impact?
We are seeking a highly skilled and seasoned Senior Travel Mechanic to lead critical on-site installations, complex troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for our advanced custom automation solutions. This role within the Custom Automation industry is ideal for a seasoned professional who not only possesses an unparalleled technical skill set but also demonstrates exceptional leadership, mentorship capabilities, and a commitment to ensuring optimal performance and client satisfaction at every turn.
As a Senior Travel Mechanic, you will be the primary technical authority on many projects, guiding less experienced team members, addressing the most challenging technical issues, and ensuring our bespoke machinery integrates seamlessly into client operations. Your ability to meticulously analyze system failures, implement robust solutions, and communicate effectively with high-level client stakeholders will be paramount. This is an opportunity to truly elevate your career and contribute to highly specialized, turn-key automation projects.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and oversee the installation, commissioning, and complex troubleshooting of custom automation machinery at client sites. Conduct advanced diagnostics on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs, servos, VFDs). Provide expert-level technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanics and field service personnel. Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions. Collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and sales teams to resolve critical issues and improve product reliability. Develop and deliver comprehensive training to client maintenance and operational staff. Manage on-site project timelines, resources, and ensure strict adherence to quality and safety standards. Prepare detailed and insightful service reports, documenting complex issues and resolutions.
Recommended Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of progressive experience. 5+ years of experience as a senior industrial mechanic, automation technician, or field service engineer, with a focus on complex machinery. Expert-level proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic schematics, and mechanical assembly drawings. In-depth knowledge of industrial control systems, including advanced PLC diagnostics (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), servo drives, and HMI applications. Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage priorities, and work independently with minimal supervision. Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively (up to 75-80%, including frequent overnight and extended stays).
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with industrial robotics (programming, troubleshooting, integration). Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record of positive client interaction and relationship building. Prior experience in a supervisory or team lead role. Familiarity with various manufacturing processes and industries.
