If you aspire to make a difference in our State, we invite you to submit your application. We are seeking attorneys to join the Economic Crimes litigating section. This opportunity is ideal for early- to mid-career prosecutors interested in specializing in financial crimes or for early-to mid-career civil or administrative law practitioners. Economic Crimes prosecutors
represent the State in criminal matters primarily involving financial crimes. They prosecute cases involving elder and dependent adult fiduciary abuse and exploitation, securities fraud, insurance fraud, tax violations, and other offenses including general fraud and white-collar crimes. The division is expanding into racing/gaming crimes, organized retail thefts, and crimes involving public officials. The
Civil Division
acts as a general-service law firm for the State, providing legal advice to state agencies, representing them in court, and defending civil litigation such as torts, employment disputes, prisoner litigation, wrongful convictions, contract disputes, civil rights claims, and administrative appeals. JOB DUTIES: File felony charging documents following best practices Prepare well-written motions and responses Present persuasive arguments and evidence during pre-trial proceedings Conduct cases at jury trials Demonstrate strong trial, research, and writing skills Participate in litigation strategy discussions Assist law enforcement with investigations, subpoenas, warrants, and wiretaps Additional duties may be assigned as needed. TRAVEL:
Some travel within Kansas for hearings, trials, and related duties; occasional out-of-state travel for training may also be required. REQUIREMENTS: Experience or knowledge in areas such as insurance litigation, securities, taxation, estate management, RICO, organized sports betting, gambling, property crimes, or financial scams is a plus. However, a strong desire to learn and prosecute complex issues is most valued. Training will be provided to help incoming attorneys transition into Economic Crimes, including subject-matter expertise, trial skills, voir dire, cross-examination, and financial analysis. We seek creative thinkers who are diligent and curious, capable of unraveling complex issues and fact patterns.
