The Supervisor of Sterile Processing has responsibility for coordinating and facilitating assigned shift operations and services provided to our customers. The Supervisor assists with coordination and oversight of work and work assignments for staff processing, distributing sterile materials, and/or Case Cart. They have responsibility in overseeing quality control in the sterile processing department including diagnosing and troubleshooting technical problems and the management of surgical instruments. The Supervisor demonstrates the Jefferson leadership philosophy, leads a staff and assists the department manager with human resources, including staff planning, team building and performance management that fosters excellence and teamwork. The Supervisor maintains a high level of internal visibility in the supervision of the department and is responsible for assisting with staff training and development. The Supervisor interviews job applicants, has direct reports, completes annual performance appraisals for direct reports and handles disciplinary actions for directs reports as appropriate. Monday-Friday (11 pm - 7 am) Essential Functions
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, and designated care partners. Provides workflow coordination, assists with staff supervision, orientation and training of new staff, problem identification and resolution, and instrument processing and sterilization review and monitoring for the department. Performs routine quality and safety checks within the department. Participates in, and may lead, department and hospital process improvement initiatives. In collaboration with their leadership, assists with various administrative functions which may include inventory orders, equipment maintenance and daily staffing assignments. Coordinates and participates in onboarding of new staff members. Maintains the ability to perform routine sterile processing operational duties and is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the department such as disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, preparing, assembling, sterilizing and dispensing surgical and procedure instrumentation and trays for the OR, Delivery Room, nursing units, and all other departments, according to manufacturers instructions for use (IFU's), prescribed procedures and aseptic technique. May perform routine sterile processing duties based on unit protocols, staffing plans and unit needs. Maintains knowledge and ability to ensure verification of pre and post sterilization quality indicators. Reports any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment to appropriate SPD leadership. Maintains knowledge and ability to use Instrument Tracking System in the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and storage of surgical trays and peel-pouched items to maintain inventory levels and accurate documentation. Responsible for data mining, analytics and reporting that lead to process improvement or workflow improvements. Maintains the knowledge and ability to accurately label each item with name and/or expiration date. Preparing procedural case carts per campus requirements. May perform QA checks for outdates and package integrity of sterilized items; replaces/reports as necessary. May be responsible for maintaining, assembling and distributing of other durable medical equipment including but not limited to code carts based on campus requirements. May be responsible for equipment rounds based on campus requirements. Examine and test instruments meticulously to ensure proper integrity, function and cleanliness prior to being sterilized or High Level disinfected based. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of certified sterile processing technician training program. AND Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in sterile processing. Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:
Sterile processing technician must maintain their required certification CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) required CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) or CSIS (Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist) preferred CHL (Certified Health Care Leader) or CSPM (Certified in Sterile Processing Management) within 18 months of hire.
