Job Summary
The University of North Georgia's Computer Science department is seeking a student worker, as graphic designer, to support the development of no-cost instructional materials for CSCI 1302 (Computer Science II). This project aims to replace the current commercial textbook with no cost and practical resources. The student worker will assist in designing simple, clear figures and visual aids for these materials. Applicants should have experience using design software such as Photoshop or similar tools and must submit samples of previous design work. Familiarity with basic drawing tools like MS Word or PowerPoint is acceptable for the required tasks.
Responsibilities
Create simple, visually clear figures and diagrams to support newly developed instructional materials for CSCI 1302. Collaborate with faculty to design figures and diagrams. Use design tools such as Photoshop, PowerPoint, or similar software to produce graphics for the course materials. Revise figures based on feedback from the project team to ensure consistency and clarity across course materials. Submit completed visual assets in an organized format suitable for integration into digital course resources.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency in using design software such as Photoshop, PowerPoint, or similar tools to create clear and engaging visuals. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with faculty to understand visual content needs. Strong attention to detail and a good sense of visual design and layout. Ability to follow instructions, incorporate feedback, and revise work accordingly. Basic understanding of computer science or programming concepts (especially Java) is a plus, but not required. Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines for deliverables.
Required Qualifications
Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in the minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker. Portfolio or samples of previous design work required as part of the application. Familiarity with design tools such as Photoshop, PowerPoint, Canva, or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working on course materials or technical content is a plus but not required. Prior experience creating visual content, diagrams, or figures for academic or professional purposes is a plus but not required.
