Employment Terms:
This is a full-time, 12-month position Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 5:45 am until 1:45 pm Hourly rate: $16.34 + $3500 annual stipend for the head custodian role Benefits eligible on the first of the month following month of hire Full-time, 12-month staff are awarded 14 PTO days & 10 vacation days and receive 11 paid holidays annually This position is governed by the Hamburg Area Support Professionals Agreement and requires a probation period of 90 workdays. Position Summary
Under general supervision, functions as a team leader at the building level for custodial staff. Performs leadership responsibilities and participates in the work performed by the custodial staff. Reports to the Director of Facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., General Educational Development (GED), foreign equivalency, etc.). Two years' experience as a custodian, preferably in an education setting. Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality. Oversee, inspect, and participate in the work performed by the custodial staff. Assist in the development of work schedules for custodial personnel in a manner that maximizes utilization of staff and effectiveness of operations. Train custodians in their duties and responsibilities. Cooperate with the building administrator and director of athletics regarding the use of school facilities for various activities. Ensure all appropriate health precautions are taken to maintain the safety of students, school employees, custodians and visitors; instruct custodial personnel in developing and facilitating safe work practices; ensure all gates, doors, rooms and buildings are secured after daily use and servicing. Ensure all cleaning agents and maintenance equipment are utilized in accordance with label instructions and prescribed safety precautions and procedures. Utilize various cleaning agents and general maintenance equipment in accordance with prescribed safety precautions and directions. Monitor custodial supplies and equipment usage. Receive and distribute custodial supplies, chemicals and equipment; provide assistance in unloading and/or receiving supplies delivered to the building. Submit work orders requests for electrical, carpentry, masonry, heating and/or plumbing for building, grounds and facility maintenance and repair as needed. Respond to emergency situations after normal business hours. In inclement weather, may be required to remove snow from walkways using necessary equipment (shovel, gas powered blower and/or gas powered snow blower (if properly trained/certified to use power equipment)). Maintain grounds according to assigned work schedule. Conform to safety standards as prescribed. Perform related duties consistent with job description and assignment. Perform other duties as assigned. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, climbing, and balancing. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near and far acuity, depth perception, focal length change, and color vision.
Strength:
Medium/Heavy - exert force 50-100 lbs., occasionally; 25-50 lbs., frequently; or 10-20 lbs., constantly.
Work Environment:
Sometimes exposed to outdoor weather conditions with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods. Exposure to dust, wet and damp grounds, fumes and hazardous chemicals.
Hazards:
Exposure to electric shock. Furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals and fumes (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
