Position Overview:
Enbridge is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer III to lead and manage the electrical and controls design of capital expansion and maintenance projects. This role involves coordinating with third-party engineering firms, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards, and managing design deliverables, budget, and schedule.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in the design of large horsepower turbine and electrical motor-driven centrifugal compressor stations, as well as expertise in industrial systems and hazardous area classifications per NEC standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical and controls design for capital facility projects.
- Oversee third-party engineering design activities to ensure compliance with project scope, standards, and budget.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders including Project Execution, Operations, and Shared Services.
- Approve design deliverables such as technical drawings, reports, and material specifications.
- Evaluate vendor quotations, conduct technical reviews, and provide recommendations for equipment selection.
- Provide technical support during project construction and commissioning phases.
- Integrate lessons learned from past projects into future designs.
- Provide technical mentoring to junior engineers.
- Ensure project scope complies with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
Technical Expertise Required:
Power Systems:
- 120/208V systems: lighting panels, convenience outlets.
- 480V systems: MCCs, motors, power panels, transformers, ATS, generators.
- 4160V systems: switchgear, synchronous motors, circuit breakers, relays, metering.
- Proficiency in cable/conduit sizing, overload sizing, grounding, and cathodic protection.
- PLC-based systems (Allen-Bradley or equivalent), HMI interfaces (e.g., Wonderware).
- Motor control circuits, PID controllers, valve actuators (electric/pneumatic).
- Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD).
- Smart/analog transmitters (e.g., Rosemount), pneumatic gauges.
- Pressure, differential pressure, temperature, and level transmitters.
- RTDs, thermocouples, flame and gas detection systems.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Project Manager: Provide regular status updates on progress, cost, and risk.
- Engineering Supervisor/Manager: Ongoing updates on design and execution.
- External Engineering Firms: Daily interaction to manage deliverables.
- Operations Teams: Coordination on facility design requirements.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive engineering and project management experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills with deep technical and business insight.
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with cross-functional project teams.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based role with potential for elevated stress levels due to tight deadlines and concurrent projects.
- Occasional travel to project sites; PPE required during field visits.
