Apex Systems, a World-Class Technology Solutions Provider, is seeking applicants for the below position on behalf of our client. Please apply if interested and qualified. Please note that only qualified candidates will be contacted. Location: Onsite in Orlando Duration: 3-6 months+ Pay Rate Range: $50-$70/Hr About the Role We are seeking a Senior or Lead Roboticist to join our advanced robotics team focused on bringing character-inspired motion to life through cutting-edge legged robots. This role requires a multidisciplinary engineer who combines deep technical expertise in perception, control systems, and electrical hardware integration with the leadership skills to guide a small team of roboticists and engineers. Your work will directly influence how audiences experience robotic characters with lifelike, animated motion. Responsibilities Lead the development of legged locomotion systems that enable robots to walk, balance, and express personality through motion. Architect and implement control systems that translate high-level animation targets into real-time coordinated joint behaviors. Integrate perception systems (IMU, vision, force/torque sensors) to support adaptive and robust motion. Oversee electrical system design including actuator control, embedded systems, power distribution, and sensor integration. Mentor and lead a small team of engineers, providing both technical guidance and project leadership to deliver production-ready robotic systems. Collaborate closely with animation, software, and mechanical design teams to ensure cohesion between motion intent and physical capability. Drive rapid prototyping and iteration using in-lab test rigs and field testing environments. Contribute to long-term technology roadmaps and R&D strategy for expressive robotic locomotion. Basic Qualifications Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorates degree in Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in robotics with demonstrated ownership of deployed systems. Strong proficiency in control theory (PID, model-based control, optimization). Hands-on experience with electrical hardware for robotics: motor drivers, sensors, real-time systems. Familiarity with implementing Reinforcement Learning for robotics. Familiarity with perception pipelines, especially for localization and terrain estimation. Proven leadership ability: mentoring, technical planning, and cross-functional coordination. Proficiency in C++ and Python in a real-time or embedded context (e.g., ROS, RTOS, or similar). A passion for bringing character and emotion to robotic motion. Preferred Qualifications Experience with legged locomotion (bipedal or quadrupedal platforms). Knowledge of whole-body control, inverse kinematics, trajectory optimization. Familiarity with safety-critical system design and system reliability testing. Background in animation-driven robotics or simulation-to-real transfer. Contributions to open-source robotics software or published research in robotics.
