Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Tax Officer, the Head of Tax Operations will lead Allstate’s income tax financial reporting and compliance functions. This role oversees federal tax operations, including tax projections, provision processes, and return filings. The Director will also spearhead a tax transformation initiative aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing controls. This leader will play a key role in supporting tax planning and strategy execution to optimize post-tax earnings across the enterprise. This position leads a team of approximately five tax professionals and a team of external consultants.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Projections Lead the external advisors in a tax managed services operating model Oversee GAAP and STAT tax provisions in coordination with external advisors and Finance, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, regulatory, and management reporting standards. Manage external audit processes related to tax reporting. Maintain and enhance internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404. Oversee tax-related financial disclosures, including 10-K, 10-Q, NAIC statements, and standalone audits. Validate tax assets and liabilities, including valuation allowance assessments. Tax Compliance Lead the external advisors in a tax managed services operating model Oversee the preparation and timely filing of federal and state income tax returns. Ensure robust documentation and audit readiness for IRS and state examinations. Integrate compliance processes with tax provision workflows. Oversee quarterly estimated tax payments for Allstate and its subsidiaries. Monitor legislative developments and advise on potential impacts. Tax Planning & Strategy Support tax planning initiatives and transactional analysis. Identify and evaluate tax risks and opportunities to reduce the effective tax rate and enhance surplus within legal and regulatory frameworks. Process Improvement & Transformation Lead tax transformation efforts as part of broader Finance modernization initiatives. Drive process efficiencies and strengthen data and analytics capabilities to support business decision-making. Business Partnership Communicate tax provisions and after-tax results clearly to business leaders. Foster open dialogue to identify tax-saving opportunities and support strategic decisions. Provide timely insights into the tax implications of business activities. Team Leadership Lead and develop a high-performing team of tax professionals. Champion learning and development through a structured tax curriculum tailored to Allstate’s tax profile. Manage relationships with external vendors providing tax services. Candidate Qualifications Minimum 12 years of experience in the property & casualty insurance industry or a Big Four accounting firm with insurance clients. Proven leadership in managing tax reporting and compliance for insurance companies. Deep technical knowledge of insurance tax, ASC 740, and SAP 101. Expertise in investment and partnership taxation; international tax experience is a plus. Experience with tax transformation initiatives is highly desirable. Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership and develop talent. Experience managing external vendors and consultants. Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Advanced degree in Taxation, Law, or CPA designation preferred. Location Remote

Compensation Compensation offered for this role is $171,000.00 - 230,250.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
