Job Description

We are seeking an Assistant Designer to support the design and development of Vuori’s Men’s Outerwear category—one of the most technically demanding and construction-intensive segments within our product line. This individual will assist in all aspects of the design process, from initial concepting to final execution. This includes research, technical sketching, tech pack creation, material and trim selection, BOM development, sample fitting, and prototype iteration. Outerwear is the most complex category in apparel design, requiring not only a strong sense of aesthetic and brand alignment, but deep understanding of garment engineering, functional performance, and movement. This role demands someone who has technical proficiency, a sharp eye for detail, and is passionate about precision. The Assistant Designer must be passionate about performance apparel and Vuori’s mission, eager to learn from and contribute to a team that leads innovation in the space while upholding the brand’s elevated design language and values.

What you'll get to do:

Assist with highly detailed tech pack creation, including:

• Technical flats

• Construction callouts and spec updates

• Trim and fabric mapping

• Stitching and finish details
n

Participate in fittings and take detailed notes, with a strong focus on:

• Range of motion and fit functionality
n
• How garments behave during athletic and lifestyle movement
n
• Opportunities for improvement in construction or patterning
n

n

Apply a foundational to intermediate understanding of garment construction across a wide range of outerwear silhouettes, including:

n

n
• Bonded seams and seam-sealed construction
n
• Shell and insulation layering systems
n
• Zipper and pocket engineering
n
• Mechanical stretch and performance-mobility considerations
n

n

Understand and track seasonal development tools such as:

n

n
• BOMs
n
• Lab dips and fabric development
n
• Trim selection and vendor communication
n
• Assist in drafting material briefs, tailoring requests, and factory development requests.
n
• Help maintain seasonal development boards and digital organization tools.
n
• Participate in proto reviews, submitting timely and clear comments while collaborating on construction improvements.
n
• Communicate clearly and consistently with cross-functional teams, including Product Development, Technical Design, and Sourcing.
n
• Leverage an understanding of pattern construction and movement dynamics to help ensure garments perform across a variety of environments.
n
• Contribute to trend and market research with an emphasis on outerwear innovation, fabrication, and functionality.
n
• Support in seasonal product presentations, line reviews, and key milestone meetings.
n
• Support the Men’s Outerwear Designer in all phases of seasonal development, from concept to finalization.

Qualifications:

Who you are:

• Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design or equivalent years of experience preferred.
n
• 1+ years of experience in product development or design, preferably in technical performance wear or outerwear
n
• Strong technical understanding of apparel and outerwear construction, including:n
  n
  • Pattern interpretation
  n
  • Measuring garments to spec
  n
  • Functional layering systems
  n
  • Understanding of fit and mobility principles
  n
n
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google/Office tools.
n
• Highly organized with strong verbal and written communication skills.
n
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
n
• A team player and self-starter who is eager to learn and adapt.
n
• A strong interest in Vuori’s mission, lifestyle, and aesthetic.
n
• Must live in the San Diego area or be willing to relocate.

The salary range for this role is $68,200 per year - $84,000 per year.
