Base pay range $60,000.00/yr - $80,000.00/yr About Ohio Student Association Ohio Student Association works to help unleash the power of young people through base-building organizing, grassroots campaigns, and leadership development. We have fought for education justice, community safety, economic justice, and democracy reform since 2012. Our organization has trained hundreds of young people as community organizers and leaders. Since 2018, we have registered 75,000 voters and created paths for young people to build political power beyond elections. For more on our past initiatives and victories, check out our website here. OSA is a part of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, an innovative statewide organization that unites community organizing groups, labor unions, faith organizations, and policy institutes across Ohio. Civic Engagement Director OSA seeks a Civic Engagement Director to develop the civic capacity of young people on college campuses across Ohio, activate student leaders to take action on important issues that impact them, and support grassroots membership organizing across the state. Required Skills & Abilities: The Civic Engagement Director is a self-motivated and detail-oriented critical thinker with a strong track record of successfully managing multiple initiatives. They are committed to social justice principles, have leadership experience, and excel at managing relationships and solving problems efficiently. They should love working with young people, possess strong planning, organizational, time management, relational, written, and oral communication skills. Job Responsibilities:
Work effectively with diverse staff, leaders, partners, and the public. Identify and develop relationships with student leaders, campus organizations, grassroots groups, labor unions, and social/economic justice advocates. Identify student issues and strategize and implement policy advocacy and campaigns at campus and statewide levels. Organize outreach activities with volunteers, including canvassing, phone/text banking, tabling, leadership development activities, and large-scale public actions like lobby days, town halls, and direct actions. Participate in campaign framing, messaging, and communication efforts including social media and press releases. Support building volunteer chapters focused on racial, economic, and social justice issues. Participate in fundraising, grant writing, reporting, and cultivating funder relationships. Assist in developing goals and utilizing data and compliance systems for voter engagement strategies. Work with the operations team to develop compliant materials and resources within budget. Collaborate with data, digital, and communications teams to develop targeting strategies for reaching student voters. Train and manage staff and volunteers, providing coaching for canvassing, phone banking, and voter engagement activities. Analyze data and research to develop trainings, scripts, and informational materials. Maintain awareness of current campaigns and political landscapes. This position is full-time, salaried, with benefits including health/dental insurance, vacation, and retirement match. Candidates must have a cell phone, Ohio driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be willing to travel. Regular in-state and national travel, including some evenings and weekends, are required. Columbus-based candidates are preferred but others in Ohio will be considered. Additional Details: This role involves management duties and is not part of the bargaining unit. Prior experience in non-profit management, campaign work, or policy advocacy is required. Salary range is $60,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience.
