7 / 24 / 2025 11 : 59 PM Arizona Description / Duties The current vacancy is in the Operations and Maintenance Assignment. The Transit Coordinator is responsible for planning, monitoring, and maintaining the City's public transit system. This class is responsible for coordinating the planning and development of fixed-routes, demand-response, light rail services, and transit assets (example : passenger shelters, transit centers, etc.), in compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and other federal requirements; preparing and monitoring the transit program budget; participating in public outreach events; and overseeing the City's Clean Air Club and alternative transportation initiatives, including the Ride Choice Program. This class performs related duties as required. Operations and Maintenance Assignment : Duties include : coordinating the day-to-day operations of fixed-route bus services which includes developing and posting fixed-route bus detours : reviewing materials for transit service changes and coordinating the distribution of materials; and serving as the primary staff managing the operations and maintenance of transit facilities which includes managing contracts, coordinating construction, civil engineering, and traffic engineering activities associated with the operations and maintenance of transit facilities. Assisting Engineering and project management staff with managing design and construction of transit facilities (park and rides, transit centers, light rail, streetcar, bus stops, etc.), coordinating lifecycle programs for transit assets, maintaining transit asset inventory, developing and maintaining Transit Asset Management Plan (TAM Plan) in accordance with FTA State of Good Repair requirements, primary staff person for coordinating approval of transit service maintenance agreements, gathering data for department performance measures, responding to customer inquiries and complaints regarding transit services and operations within the City, and working to resolve issues quickly. Creating and maintaining effective working relationships with other city departments and external agencies. This position also serves as the primary staff for design and plan review for developer and CIP projects related to transit services within the City. Managing the City's transit shelter advertising program. Managing grants and programs for transit facility improvements. Serving as the Transit department liaison with the City-wide special events committee and City-wide volunteer management team. Assisting with transit planning activities to support the Planning and Policy coordinator assignment. Providing technical advice to City staff, regional partners, and other agencies on transit-related issues. Participating in regional meetings with MAG and Valley Metro. Planning and Policy Assignment : Duties also include : participating in local and regional planning activities; studies and projects for light rail, streetcar, fixed-route bus paratransit, and RideChoice programs; primary staff person managing Mesa's portion of the Transit Lifecycle Program and Short Range Transit Plan; participating with Valley Metro and other city departments in planning, designing and construction of high capacity transit projects; managing transit grants; interpreting data for service planning and department performance measures; primary staff person for public outreach activities including events and web page; managing Mesa's participation in the Maricopa County trip reduction program including administering a yearly trip reduction survey and the maintenance of Mesa's trip reduction program; developing a yearly department work plan and interpreting data for departmental performance measures; updating and maintaining transit data and reports for internal and external use through Mesa's data portal; coordinating with other jurisdictions to maximize transit service in the East Valley; participating in Title IV reporting; participating in regional meetings with MAG and Valley Metro; and represents the City on various boards and regional transit committees. The Transit Coordinator is supervised by the Transit Services Director who reviews work through reports, conferences, and by results achieved. This class is FLSA exempt-administrative. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Transportation, Urban Studies, or a related field and considerable (3 - 5 years) experience in public transportation planning, operations, or administration; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Transportation, Urban Studies, or a related field and good (1 - 3 years) experience in public transportation planning, operations, or administration.
