Position Summary Join a dynamic team ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal utility regulations. This role oversees 811 "Call Before You Dig," FDOT, and Broward County right-of-way utility permitting, as well as E-plan reviews and approvals for City utilities. You'll collaborate with engineers, contractors, and agencies to review and interpret technical documents, building plans, and permit applications. Responsibilities include: Reviewing submittals for water, wastewater, stormwater, and reuse utility projects Ensuring compliance with EPA, FDEP, FAC, and City of Pompano Beach codes Attending PAM, DRC, and pre-construction meetings Managing inspections, code compliance investigations, and acting as an expert witness Monitoring water use and discharge under City and FDEP permits Coordinating emergency utility assessments after storm events Overseeing underground utility locates and contractor performance
This essential role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to public service-even during emergencies. Typical Qualifications
Education : 1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
Licensing :
Must possess a Florida Class "1" Water Distribution Operator License or obtain within 1 year of hire. Valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record required. Backflow Prevention Tester license required (or must be obtained within probationary period).
Experience :
Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in water/reuse or wastewater operations. Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role. Minimum 2 years of construction plan review and inspection. Hands-on utility construction experience required.
Preferred Skills & Certifications :
Dual licensing/certification in water, wastewater, stormwater, or reuse systems. Experience with GIS, Asset Management, and Hydraulic modeling. Knowledge of FW&PCOA certifications is a plus. Strong familiarity with materials, methods, tools, regulations, and documentation used in water-reuse distribution and wastewater systems.
Additional Information Work Days/Hours : Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
